Food Moods

Is food wrecking your mood? How can you tell? We often hear of chocolate being an aphrodesiac (though if you're like me, you lose the feeling after you become a chocolate maniac). But did you know that the simple refined sugar that you find in cookies cakes and candy can also have adverse affects on your overall mood, making you irritable and cranky?

Jamie Oliver, one of the foremost popular british chefs, did a documentrary on this phenomenon recently and found that a child's symtoms of attention deficit disorder and other behavioral problems disappeared 24 hours after switching to a higher nutritional diet and cutting out all the junk food.

Interesting eh? It's thanks to him that British schools everywhere are now overturning their greasy high fat cafeteria meals for highly nutritious dinners.

Let me tell you, I suffered many a tantrum when I was younger. Psychologists and therapists can point to behavioral therapies all they want but isn't it interesting when they don't talk about diet's effects on the brain? These symtoms would often show up after eating brownies or cookies or cakes (sometimes on an empty stomach). What is tricky is that these symtoms can often be delayed, not showing up for hours.
