The Low Fat Recipe Page

Sometimes all we need to persuade ourselves and others to eat less fat are some tasty and delicious recipes that promise to be just that. So to get you started on a path to eating healthier and losing weight, I thought I might share some low fat great tasting recipes of mine that I use on a weekly basis.  They don't take much preparation time at all and are half the calories of their more fatty counterparts.

Dijon Mustard Chicken. This one is my all time favorite. You take a few freshly prepared chicken breasts (no breading, no prepackaged seasoning) and use a marinade to tenderize them to perfection. First, get out two to three onions and dice them up. Then, line a casserole dish with them and pour on a little bit of vinegar (about a teaspoon) Next, put your slightly thawed chicken breasts onto the bed of onions and smear the chicken breasts  on each side with dijon mustard.  Cover it with the lid and put in a preheated oven at 350 Celsius for 40 minutes. Your chicken will be tender and moist after it's finished and oh so mouth watering.  Alternative: You don't have to use dijon mustard sauce exactly-you can also use whatever sauce suits your taste, be it barbeque sauce, honey dijon or spicy mexican.

Herb Seasoned Potatoes These potatoes are quick and easy to make and they taste FABULOUS! All you do is cut up some potatoes with the skin on and put them in a pan. Then you sprinkle salt, pepper, thyme and rosemary over the pieces and drizzle them with olive oil. Next, cover up the pan with aluminum foil and cook in the oven at 350 degrees celsius for 30-40 minutes.

Whole Wheat Spaghetti: This dish is just a slight adjustment from regular white spaghetti, but it is a whole lot more filling and doesn't taste much different from the refined stuff. Just pick it out from your grocery, cook it up and use the sauce of your choice. I highly recommend trying Sweet Basil sauce. Yummy!

Tuna on Rye: Rye bread is one of the most filling breads out there, if you buy the genuine kind. Proper rye bread should be chewy and dense. The kind I use is called Klausterbraut.

Tuna, on the other hand, can be found everywhere. The trick is to get it to taste good. Some people like to mix it with mayo to enhance the flavour but for a less fattening tuna, try mixing it with low fat salad dressing instead. Not only will it taste better but it'll be half the fat!
